Cessna, capable of landing itself
The new Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 business jet will be one of the most advanced models in its category. A standout feature of the aircraft will be the Garmin Emergency Autoland system, which can fully take control and autonomously land the plane if the pilot is unable to do so for any reason. Textron Aviation aims to achieve certification for this innovation in the United States by the end of 2026.

Given that the Citation CJ4 Gen3 is designed for single-pilot operation, this system serves as a crucial safeguard in emergency situations. When necessary, Emergency Autoland autonomously selects an appropriate airport, descends, approaches for landing, and safely touches down without human intervention.
The foundation of this complex is the new Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics, which automates more operations and significantly reduces the pilot’s workload during flight. For a light business jet, the combination of a single-pilot cockpit and a full emergency autoland system presents a key competitive advantage.
The aircraft is already undergoing flight tests. Two prototype units have accumulated over 880 hours of flight time, and the company plans to complete the testing program and obtain FAA certification by the end of the year.
According to the specifications, the Citation CJ4 Gen3 will be capable of covering up to 2165 nautical miles (4009 km) on a full fuel load. The maximum payload is approximately 998 kg, with the baggage compartments designed for 472 kg, and the cabin accommodating up to 11 passengers.
If the certification proceeds as planned, the Citation CJ4 Gen3 will become one of the few light business jets capable not only of flying with a single pilot but also of autonomously concluding the flight in case of an emergency.
