Hongqi intends to install perovskite elements on additional body parts, including the hood
The FAW Hongqi company has unveiled a prototype of a panoramic roof equipped with perovskite-based solar cells. This technology has been implemented in the electric crossover Hongqi EHS7, where it can generate up to 300 watts of power under adequate sunlight.
According to the manufacturer, such a roof can produce approximately 400 kWh of electricity over the course of a year. The energy generated is sufficient to power low-energy systems within the vehicle, such as the air conditioning, refrigerator, and security mode.

Unlike conventional silicon solar cells, perovskite modules are characterized by their reduced thickness, weight, and flexibility, making it easier to integrate them into the curved surface of a car roof. However, developers had to address issues related to protecting the material from water, oxygen, and ultraviolet light.
In the future, Hongqi aims to incorporate perovskite elements onto other body components, including the hood. The company estimates this could yield up to 10 kWh of energy daily, which theoretically would be sufficient to extend the daily range of the electric vehicle by approximately 80 km.
Specific timelines for the implementation of this technology in production vehicles by Hongqi have not yet been announced.
